SEACRET - DevLog #3 - Concept-arts
Hello fellow divers ! Welcome to another DevLog for Seacret !
In this week's post, we're staying with the design phase, but this time we're going to talk graphics, showing you the different stages of concept art for the different characters and environments in our game. We're off!
CHARACTERS
The Seacret adventure will see 3 “main” characters interacting with each other: the diver (the player), and two robots whose roles and actions in the story will be revealed as you explore the game...
For the diver, we've decided on 2 potential directions. Here they are:
one with “lighter” equipment, more like a “tourist”, doing simple exploration:
And one with more complete, technological equipment, showing that the character has come to the game site with a precise objective. We decided to keep the second design:
For the first robot, named M-8, after numerous trials and feedbacks, we decided on the direction of a robot with the look of a sea creature, and settled on a design reminiscent of a crab. Here's some concept arts hand-drawn by our graphic designer:
And here is the final result, with the design the whole team selected, colorized and textured :
ENVIRONMENTS
For our environments, we want the player to experience alternating environments between closed, cramped spaces in sunken buildings; and more open, colorful underwater environments, to reinforce the feeling and desire to explore.
Inside the facility, the first concept-art piece produced by our second graphic designer, is a sunken laboratory environment. Here's the final concept-art:

Outside the facility, the aim is to offer different biomes with brighter and different colors from one biome to another, here are the concepts that has been realized so far :
